Bergskog

Photo Bergskog

Bergskog designs and builds handcrafted sustainable quality furniture from local timber, that lasts for generations. They are committed to good design that focuses on quality and longevity, well adapted to a circular economy.

Bergskog creates durable furniture with wood joints instead of screws, overseeing the entire process from tree to finished product. They involve customers and prioritize sustainability by using local resources and repurposing overlooked parts of trees. Norway's furniture industry benefits from forests planted in the 1950s, primarily using resilient birch trees known for their distinct appearance.

Nestled amidst forests, Bergskog's house and workshop are the core of their operations. Built from Norwegian timber, it embodies their permaculture philosophy, using sunlight and wood for heat instead of electricity. By merging craftsmanship and sustainable practices, Bergskog extends their commitment to the environment. The integration of operations under one roof allows for seamless implementation of sustainability at each stage, ensuring resource optimization and minimizing ecological impact. From sourcing to final product, sustainability is upheld in their holistic approach.

Bergskog sets an inspiring example for sustainable furniture production by dedicating themselves to responsible resource management and cherishing nature's gifts in their craftsmanship. They leave a lasting impact on both the industry and community.

Bespoke solutions designed with the customer

At Bergskog, customer involvement is highly valued and encouraged. From the moment customers step into the showroom or browse our online collection, they are invited to participate in the decision-making process. We believe that furniture is not just a functional item but a personal expression of style and values. As such, we want our customers to have an active role in shaping their furniture, right from the choice of materials to the finishing touches.

For those who order new designs, we offer a unique tribute by naming the furniture after them. This gesture not only acknowledges their choice of sustainable, hand-built furniture but also adds a personal touch to their purchase. It serves as a reminder that each piece is created with care and dedication, tailored to the specific desires of our customers.

Locally Sourced Wood

To ensure quality and sustainability, we source trees locally, minimizing transportation and carbon footprint. Birch wood from our region's dense forest and hilly terrain adds unique character to our eco-friendly furniture, reflecting the natural beauty of the landscape.

Vegetable-Tanned Leather

We use high-quality, eco-friendly vegetable-tanned leather from nearby Sweden to preserve craftsmanship and avoid toxins.

Textiles from the renowned Gudbrandsdalen Uldvarefabric

We value high-quality fabrics, so we partner with Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabric AS. Established in 1887 in Lillehammer, Norway, they are known for exceptional wool products. With in-house production, we ensure flexibility and superior upholstery. Supporting local businesses preserves traditional craftsmanship and heritage.

Natural Finishes for Long-Lasting Care

At Bergskog, we use natural finishes to enhance furniture's beauty and longevity. Our trusted treatments respect the environment and materials. Each piece includes a maintenance kit with extra finish for easy care. Our primary finishes are linseed oil and Soap wash, which add beauty and cleanse the wood. For a timeless black finish, we offer ebonizing or iron staining, ensuring long-lasting results.
