Northern

The Northern brand was born in the studios of Northern Lighting, where a team of creatives has been illuminating lives for the past twelve years. Their approach seamlessly blends beauty with functionality, favoring natural materials and genuine craftsmanship. Expanding their scope to include furniture and interior accessories, they found a natural canvas for expressing their distinctive style on a grander scale.

In their inaugural collection, Northern manifests simplicity in its purest form, encapsulated in streamlined designs that invite playful combinations and effortless clashes. The use of smoked wood, twilight hues, and bold silhouettes generates subdued atmospheres, while subtle geometries and timeless aesthetics contribute an elegant finesse. Viewing the interior as a versatile, creative space, Northern crafts multifunctional products that share a unified style and spirit.

Northern's creative influence extends beyond its Norwegian roots to meet the contemporary demand for laid-back luxury and cutting-edge cool. The designs have the capacity to invigorate and inspire, induce a serene ambiance, or establish the backdrop for tranquility. Engineered with the potential to transform any setting into a unique experience, Northern's products not only add atmosphere but also unveil a fresh vision for Nordic style.

Designer, founder and CEO of Northern, Ove Rogne is a driving force in lighting design. Born in the Norwegian city of Narvik, Rogne received a Masters degree in Business and Economics from the Norwegian School of Management before pursuing a career in management consulting.

Guided by a determination to work more creatively and a vision for making lighting design a bit brighter, Rogne teamed up with three long-time friends to establish Northern Lighting in 2005. The following year, Rogne created the award-winning Oslo Wood floor lamp, later teaming up with Trond Svendgård to co-design the Moo wall light in 2008.  His enthusiasm for Norwegian retro classics has revitalised the work of mid-century designers such as Birger Dahl and made their legacies relevant to design today. A strong supporter of young talent, Rogne has launched initiatives to help design graduates gain industry experience and also established the annual Northern Lighting Student Design Award in 2013.
